Approximate location on the map

The map appears once your location is detected.

IP-based locations point to your provider's network, not your street address, and can be many kilometers off.

Private by design

MyIPAddress runs entirely in your browser. There is no backend and no account, and we do not log or store your IP address or any lookup result. Your browser asks public IP lookup services directly for your details, and those services see your IP address the same way any website does. The page also loads an advertising script from Monetag, a third party that may use cookies under its own privacy policy.

About MyIPAddress

MyIPAddress is a free online IP address checker. It shows your public IP address (IPv4 or IPv6), approximate location, internet provider (ISP and ASN), timezone and browser details in one click, and it runs entirely in your browser.

Key features

  • Instant IP detection on page load, for IPv4 and IPv6.
  • IP location lookup: city, region, country, postal code and timezone.
  • ISP lookup with ASN, so you can see who owns your connection.
  • VPN IP check: Re-check IP tells you whether your address changed.
  • Copy your IP or all details with one click.
  • No sign-up and no backend: lookups run from your browser.

What is an IP address?

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is the number that identifies your connection on the internet. When you open a website, the site needs an address to send the page back to, and that address is your public IP. Your internet service provider assigns it, or your VPN does if you are connected to one. Inside your home, your router also hands out private addresses to each device, but only the public IP is visible to the websites you visit.

IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42. There are only about 4.3 billion of them, which is why IPv6 exists. IPv6 addresses are longer, such as 2001:db8::8a2e:370:7334, and provide a practically unlimited supply. Many networks now use both, and MyIPAddress shows whichever your browser connects with.

What your IP address reveals

Your IP address tells a website roughly which country, region and provider you are connecting from. It does not reveal your name or home address. Combined with other data, though, it can be used to recognize your connection, which is one reason people use a VPN.

How to check if my VPN is working

A VPN IP check takes under a minute:

  1. With your VPN off, open this page and note your IP address, ISP and country.
  2. Connect to your VPN and choose a server in another country.
  3. Press Re-check IP.
  4. Confirm the IP, ISP and country now match the VPN server, and that MyIPAddress reports the IP as changed.

If your original IP and ISP still appear, your traffic is not going through the VPN. Also compare the timezone shown here with the one on your device: a mismatch is normal with a VPN, since the lookup reports the server's timezone.

Frequently asked questions

What is an IP address?

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique number assigned to your connection that lets other devices on the internet know where to send data. Your public IP address is the one websites see when you visit them, and it is usually assigned by your internet service provider (ISP) or by your VPN.

How do I check if my VPN is working?

Open MyIPAddress with your VPN turned off and note your IP address, ISP and country. Then connect to your VPN and press Re-check IP. If the IP address, ISP and location now belong to the VPN server instead of your own connection, the VPN is working. If nothing changed, the VPN is not routing your traffic.

Does this tool store my IP address?

No. MyIPAddress has no backend and does not save or log your IP address. The lookup runs in your browser, which contacts third-party IP geolocation services directly. Those services necessarily see your IP address, as any website you visit does. The page also shows ads served by Monetag, a third party governed by its own privacy policy and cookie practices.

How accurate is IP location?

IP geolocation is usually accurate at country level and often at region or city level, but it shows where your ISP or VPN exit point is registered, not your street address. Results can be off by many kilometers, especially on mobile networks.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 addresses are four numbers separated by dots (for example 203.0.113.42) and there are only about 4.3 billion of them. IPv6 addresses are longer, written in hexadecimal groups separated by colons, and were created to provide a practically unlimited supply. Many connections now use both.

Is MyIPAddress free and safe to use?

Yes. MyIPAddress is a free, 100% client-side network utility with no sign-up. It only reads the public information your connection already shares and never asks for passwords or personal data. The site is supported by ads.

What is an ISP lookup?

An ISP lookup identifies the internet service provider and network (ASN) that owns your IP address. MyIPAddress shows your ISP and ASN next to your IP so you can confirm who provides your connection or which VPN network you are using.

Why does my IP address show the wrong city?

Geolocation databases map IP ranges to the place where the range is registered or routed, which is often your ISP's regional hub rather than your home. Mobile carriers, VPNs, corporate networks and recently reassigned address ranges can all show a different city.
